2010
Swing into Spring is the signature event of the year and again, it was most successful. The band – Calibre Cats – was a great hit, and appealed to the many youthful guests – although there were some mature dancers who clearly couldn’t resist the music.
In contrast, BGGS provided the musical event of the evening that was much appreciated.
SCP is grateful for the generosity of those who sponsored the event and donated items for prizes. As a result, hearts were won with the purchase of jewellery items along with big bags and accessories. No doubt some will be appreciating the benefits of fashion gift vouchers while others will be relaxing in resorts, dining out or enjoying the benefits of the wine – or the spa!
We would like to thank our wonderful sponsors, Commonwealth Bank Australia, Ariadne, McCullough Robertson, Castaway, Queensland Government, Clovely Wines and IPG Print.
We owe a great big thank you to Sara Hatten-Masterson from The Image Boutique for organising the fashion parade; a first for Swing into Spring.
Lastly we would like to thank our MC, Channel 9’s Sylvia Jeffreys for again donating her time.
Swing into Spring provides an opportunity for the committee to raise awareness of homelessness with a different audience and to promote the work – and the needs – of SCP. Committee member Zara Sexton is the brains, beauty and the boss behind Swing into Spring and SCP is deeply indebted to her and her friends (Samantha Hudghton, Tiah Miller, Amy Bent and Cass Thies) for the long hours of planning and effort that went into making this event so successful.
2009
On September 18, the SCP held its annual signature event, Swing into Spring, at the very comfortable Mirro venue. ‘One of the most successful events – ever,’ according to one enthusiastic supporter. It was also the most successful fundraiser – ever – for SCP.
For this we thank – enormously – our very generous sponsors – including the Talbot Family Foundation – who most generously presented a further cheque for $10,000 at the event.
Such a successful event is the result of extraordinary amount of work on the part of some very dedicated people. Zara Sexton is the committee member – and the ‘driving’ force – on the team where Sam Hudghton and Tiah Miller also gave unstintingly of their time and energy – and we cannot praise them too much! Girls from Brisbane Girls Grammar School provided a quartet and raffle ticket sellers (we are very grateful for their Friday night support) and the silent auction would not have been nearly as successful without the encouragement provided by Fay Jackson and Joy Graham.
A major reason for the fundraising success was the quality of the sponsorship and the donations. The list of prizes and auction items was amazing and enticing. We’d like to thank everyone who made the fundraising possible; from Philip Bacon Galleries – to the Little Black Dress Boutique: from the fashion gurus Pia du Pradal, Kennedy and Forbes, to Maryons Shoes (and the Dolce and Gabana bag!).
Many of our supporters will be dining out on vouchers from Customs House, Baguette, and Wine and Dine ‘M Catering, or working out at Pilates Studio New Farm, with Bodywize personal training – or testing their limits at Riverlife Adventure. One lucky little girl will be parading her outfit from Little Workers, and perhaps it is parents who are enjoying the ‘escape’ voucher from Flight Centre – or relaxing at Bridgewater Quest resort, luxuriating in the king spa room at the Emporium – or enjoying champagne at the Limes Hotel. Or just reading a Coaldrake’s book!
Some will smell delightful (Libertine Parfumerie and Perfect Potion), someone will be enjoying the personal concierge services – (and another will be sporting Pearls for Girls) – while one lucky person will be tending the most splendid orchid donated by Her Excellency, Quentin Bryce AC.
And no doubt someone has had a ‘wind-in-their-hair-experience’ as they drive the Audi on their way to Palazzo Versace!
Clearly there will be many delighted supporters. And SCP thanks all concerned for their many forms of support!
